During the many years that the founder of KANIKA worked as a volunteer, mostly  in Thailand, she was given her new name: as the locals had problems pronouncing her name, Gineke, they gave her the name KANIKA during a traditional ceremony. She was named after a small local flower that blossoms only during the night.

The flower has been the inspiration for the logo of KANIKA. The colours stand for the five characteristics of KANIKA:
